We are delighted to have embarked on a meaningful journey through the Service Learning methodology, in close collaboration with the Venerini Youth Center. Together, we organized a series of trainings and activities aimed at improving the quality of life in our community.
Our Focus Areas Included:
- Art and culture
- Care for the elderly
Training Sessions Covered:
- Introduction to the Service Learning methodology and its practical steps
- Educational sessions with doctors on health issues affecting the elderly
- Psychological discussions for youth, reflection sessions, and preparation for community-based actions
Why Focus on the Elderly?
- To foster intergenerational connection and empower youth through real community engagement
- To positively impact social life and address a growing local need
- To show appreciation to the generation that came before us
This initiative was supported by Mary Ward Loreto, represented by Afërdita Gjoni. The opening remarks were delivered by Dom Emiljan Paloka, parish priest of the area. The event was honored by the presence of Antoneta Suta, Director of ZVA Lezhë; Vasilika Laska, Director of Strategic Projects and European Integration at the Municipality of Lezhë; and representatives of the Red Cross, including Dr. Ndrec Zefi, Chairman of the Red Cross Council, Lezhë branch.
Thanks to the commitment and enthusiasm of all involved, the elderly of Gjadër now have a welcoming space to gather, connect, and enjoy each other’s company.
Special gratitude goes to the local youth and to Sister Alma Zogu, a tireless force for positive change in the community and beyond.
This is a shining example of how young people can drive meaningful change—one act of service at a time.
