Laying the Foundations: The Birth of Mary Ward Loreto in Albania – Annual Report 2013

In its inaugural year, Mary Ward Loreto (MWL) laid the foundation for transformative change in Albania by addressing deep-rooted social injustices and promoting dignity for the most vulnerable. With a focus on gender equality, anti-trafficking, youth empowerment, education reform, and the inclusion of ethnic minorities, MWL launched impactful grassroots initiatives across rural and informal urban areas. Over 300 women were empowered through human development and income-generating programs; anti-trafficking efforts expanded through awareness campaigns and survivor support; and systemic change in education was piloted through the Think Tank Education in Albania. MWL also nurtured partnerships with organizations like D&E, SHKEJ, and RENATE, amplifying its impact through collaboration. Despite the challenges of establishing a new organization, MWL staff displayed extraordinary dedication and professionalism, setting a strong ethical and operational standard for future growth. Their work in 2013 marked a bold and hopeful beginning for inclusive development and social responsibility in Albania.
